The Patron Saint of Good Fortune

Saint CajetanI blow the dice in my closed hand,
shake my fist three perfect times
then roll. Indeed I am a lucky man
when I count just fives and sixes
and put aside the ones and two.
It seems all my life I was blessed
to hold the winning numbers.
Six years of drawing diamonds.
Six years in a running flush.
Six more of beds and full houses.
Six and six and six again.
O Patron Saint of Good Fortune,
how could I possibly repay you?
I’d kiss the cave of your ear and say,
I can love you long and hard, so stay.
